The Kadowinja Foundation gives vulnerable children in Kenya access to education, nutrition, and clean water β and the promise they will never be forgotten.
My difficult childhood and lack of school fees inspired me to build a foundation that supports vulnerable children in Kenya. Having experienced these challenges firsthand, I understand the transformative power of education and basic support.
Since our founding on January 29, 2009, we have grown from a small initiative to a registered foundation in the Netherlands, working closely with a Community Based Organisation in Kenya to make lasting change.
Since our founding, over 500 children have been supported with education, nutrition, and hope. Many have gone on to university and gained meaningful employment β breaking the cycle of poverty forever.

The Kadowinja Foundation is registered in the Netherlands and works hand-in-hand with a Community Based Organisation (CBO) in Kenya, ensuring our efforts are internationally supported and locally implemented with deep community understanding.
We bridge the gap between Dutch donors and Kenyan communities. Private initiatives focused on education, school meals, and clean drinking water receive little support from large organisations β we fill that gap.
Since our founding, we have supported more than 500 children with education, nutrition, and hope. Many have gone on to complete studies, advance to university, and gain meaningful employment.
Regular, healthy meals for children to combat malnutrition and support growth and learning.
Improving health outcomes through education and awareness programs focused on preventive care and healthy living.
Supporting children's access to safe, clean drinking water to prevent disease and improve overall health.
Renovating and building school classrooms to create safe, conducive learning environments for children.
Supporting development programs for children ages 2β6, laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
Working with families and communities to create sustainable solutions for long-term development.
Kadowinja Foundation exists to uplift vulnerable children and communities in Kenya by providing opportunities that restore dignity, hope, and a fair chance in life. We ensure every child has access to education, nutritious food, clean water, and healthcare β fundamental rights no one should be denied.
A world where every child in Kenya can grow, learn, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. We envision empowered women, youth, and families creating lasting change β a future where no child goes hungry and no student is kept out of school due to lack of fees.
Many vulnerable children in rural Kenya lack access to education, food, and clean water. It only takes:
for a child to attend school for one full year
The Foundation was born from the personal experiences of people who overcame adversity through education β and never forgot where they came from.

I was born in 1960 in Nairobi, Kenya. My childhood was marked by struggle, particularly when it came to education. Like many children in vulnerable communities, I faced significant challenges in affording school fees, which threatened to cut short my dreams.
After many years living and working in Europe, I returned to Kenya with a heart full of hope. What I witnessed deeply moved me β children suffering from malnutrition, bright young minds unable to attend school because their families couldn't afford the fees. These children reminded me of my own childhood struggles, and I knew I couldn't turn away.
Together with my sister, I began supporting these children. Since our founding, we have supported more than 500 children, providing them with education, nutrition, and hope.
"The Kadowinja Foundation is more than an organisation β it's a promise to the children of Kenya that they are seen, valued, and worthy of every opportunity to succeed."

I was born in Suriname, a small country in South America. My early years were spent in a village where access to quality education was limited, and opportunities were scarce. Despite these challenges, I harbored big dreams and an unwavering determination to build a better future.
To fund my education, I worked in the gold fields β hard, demanding work that tested my physical and mental strength. Through perseverance and sacrifice, I completed my university studies β an achievement that represented hope for everyone in my village.
"Together, we are building bridges to better futures, one child at a time. Education is not just about books β it's about opening doors and proving that where you start doesn't determine where you can go."

I have been involved with the Kadowinja Foundation since its founding in 2009. For the first few years, I served as treasurer. Together with Kadogo, I traveled to Kenya annually and visited students and projects there β there you see firsthand how valuable the Foundation's work truly is. I recently retired β a perfect time to serve as secretary of our Foundation and deepen my commitment to this vital mission.
From different continents and backgrounds, both Kadogo and Eugene understand the power of resilience, education, and community support. Their shared vision drives the Kadowinja Foundation's commitment to creating lasting change in the lives of vulnerable children in Kenya.

Kadowinja Foundation also operates a Community Based Organisation in Kenya with its own board β a dedicated team rooted in the community, driving our programs with passion and local expertise.
Every program we run addresses the root causes of poverty β not just its symptoms. Sustainable change happens through education, health, nutrition, and community empowerment working together.
We pay school fees for vulnerable children every January and September β the main enrollment periods in Kenya. This ensures continuity in schooling without interruptions caused by lack of fees. Hundreds of children have already benefited, gaining the opportunity to stay in school, complete their education, and build a better future.
We provide regular, healthy school meals to combat malnutrition. A fed child is a learning child. We also provide education to schools and women's groups about healthy eating, food production, and food safety β addressing hunger at both household and community level.
We install water tanks and support access to clean drinking water at schools. This reduces the burden on young children who previously walked long distances to collect water, and dramatically improves hygiene and health outcomes.
We renovate and build classrooms, sanitary facilities, and school infrastructure. Every child deserves a safe, dignified learning environment. We also repair and replace broken desks so no child has to sit on the floor or in discomfort.
We work to end preventable illness through information and education. We are committed to reducing maternal and child mortality, and combating epidemics through awareness programs in schools and communities aligned with SDG Goal 3.
We work with women's groups to provide training in food production, entrepreneurship, and income generation. Empowered mothers raise empowered children β and empowered communities sustain themselves long after we leave.
Our objectives are directly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals β a global commitment to building a better world by 2030.
By 2030, no one in the world should go hungry. We provide education to schools and women's groups about healthy eating, food production, and food safety.
By 2030, epidemics must be ended and maternal and child mortality significantly reduced. We work through education and awareness campaigns.
By 2030, all boys and girls should complete primary and secondary school. We remove financial barriers and build learning environments.
Ensuring clean, accessible water for all. We install water tanks and sanitary facilities at schools and in communities across Kenya.
Our Computer Training Centre and chicken rearing programs create sustainable income for youth and families.
We focus specifically on "forgotten" children β those in the most remote and underserved communities β to reduce the inequality gap.

Through community engagement and sustainable partnerships, we implement projects that create lasting impact in the lives of vulnerable children.

Sospeter joined the Kadowinja Foundation as a young student facing financial hardship and the risk of dropping out of school. Through our full school-fees support program, he completed his education successfully and proudly graduated.
Today, Sospeter is giving back. He now serves as a dedicated volunteer at the Kadowinja CBO, supporting children who face the same struggles he once did.
"Sospeter's journey proves what happens when opportunity meets determination β a child's future is transformed, and the entire community benefits."
